Reasons to Stop Smoking - Disease, Finances, and More

There are a variety of reasons to stop smoking, and any ex-smoker or non-smoker will be more than happy to rattle off a list to make you wonder why you even started. It can be frustrating as a smoker to have to listen to people who have never had the addiction talk about how you should 'just stop'. You're not alone. If it was that simple, more people would be non-smokers by now. It's not about quitting the cigarettes. It's about quitting the habit and the lifestyle. If you smoke when you drive, you'll likely struggle when you're in the car and have recently quit smoking. If you smoke when you drink, the same issue will present itself. However, re-learning life is much easier than losing your life or facing serious issues because you keep smoking.

Everyone knows that smoking can lead to lung disease, cancer, heart disease, and a myriad of other health problems. Yellow teeth, stained fingers, halitosis, and possible birth defects or low birth weight from pregnant women smoking are all more negative side effects of smoking. These are the things that you see on TV, in the media, and hear from people all the time. However, even when your health and wellbeing isn't at risk, there are plenty of reasons to stop smoking.

One of the best reasons to stop smoking is for the money you'll save. Depending on where you live, cigarettes can be very expensive. If you calculate how much you spend on cigarettes a week, and then multiply that by 52 (weeks in a year), you'll likely realise that you are spending hundreds or thousands of dollars or pounds on cigarettes over the course of a year. If you add that up for the number of years that you've been smoking, you'll see that you've spent a substantial amount of your income on a habit that you probably could live without.

Regardless of why you want to stop smoking or which reasons make the most sense to you, you cannot quit until you are ready. Everyone says that you can try, but it will be wasteful of your time and money to attempt something that you're not committed to. As long as you're not facing serious health risks imminently, find YOUR time to quit, and your own reasons to have the best chances of success in your endeavour. If you are scared or worried about failing, consider hypnosis to stop smoking because it's a very effective and quick treatment for most.
